Establishment of the Department
The Department of Mechanical Techniques/Production was established in 1978. It is considered one of the leading academic departments that contributes to preparing specialized technical cadres equipped with scientific knowledge and practical skills in the field of mechanical production techniques. Since its establishment, the department has worked to keep pace with rapid scientific and technological developments, ensuring the graduation of qualified cadres capable of meeting the needs of the local and regional labor market.
The department adopts modern curricula that include scientific and applied courses covering various fields of mechanical engineering and production techniques, including manufacturing processes, machine operation, welding techniques, engineering drawing, computer-aided design, materials science, quality control, industrial management, and modern production systems.
The department is keen to provide engineering laboratories and workshops equipped with the necessary devices and equipment to train students practically, enabling them to acquire applied experience and link theoretical concepts with practical applications. Students are also trained to use modern engineering software and computer-aided design and manufacturing technologies, which enhances their readiness to work in various industrial institutions.
The department also encourages faculty members and students to participate in research activities, scientific conferences, and workshops, with the aim of promoting scientific research, developing technical solutions to industrial and production problems, and contributing to the transfer and application of knowledge in service of society.
The department maintains cooperative relations with industrial institutions, government departments, and the private sector, which contributes to providing opportunities for summer training and field applications for students. It also helps identify labor market needs and develop curricula in line with those needs.
The department continuously works to update its academic programs in accordance with quality standards and academic accreditation requirements, with a focus on developing creativity, innovation, and entrepreneurship among students. This qualifies them to establish industrial and production projects that contribute to supporting the national economy.
Graduates of the department are distinguished by having a solid scientific foundation and extensive practical experience that enable them to work in factories, industrial companies, oil and energy institutions, government departments, and the private sector, in addition to the possibility of pursuing postgraduate studies and scientific research in related specializations.
Based on its scientific mission, the Department of Mechanical Techniques/Production continues to perform its role in preparing distinguished technical competencies capable of keeping pace with the industrial revolution and modern technological developments, and of actively contributing to achieving sustainable industrial development and serving society, in line with labor market requirements and employers’ aspirations for cadres who possess knowledge, skills, experience, and the ability to innovate and continuously develop.
