Department History and Establishment
The Department was established in 1981 with a small academic staff consisting of three teaching members, none of whom were Iraqi nationals, along with a limited number of technical trainers. At that time, the Department relied heavily on experienced external lecturers, particularly those from the General Company for Northern Oil.However, within a very short period, the Department succeeded in developing its own academic staff. A number of teaching staff members joined the Department, enabling it to rely on its own personnel and dispense with external services. The Department has also contributed to the supervision, development, and rehabilitation of many industrial plants. Furthermore, many industrial facilities consult the Department’s teaching staff to address the technical problems and challenges they encounter.
Admission and Study Program The Department exclusively admits graduates of preparatory school from the Scientific Branch. The study program combines theoretical, practical, and applied components. The theoretical component is delivered through lectures in classrooms, while the practical component is provided through the Department’s laboratories and workshops. In addition, the applied component includes practical training at one of the industrial facilities as part of the summer training program.First-year students are required to complete two months of summer training during the summer vacation. Completion of this training is a prerequisite for graduation. Upon fulfilling all graduation requirements, the graduate is awarded a Technical Diploma in Chemical Industries Techniques, qualifying them to work in various industrial fields, including the oil sector, laboratories, and different industrial plants.Graduates are qualified to participate in various stages of production, quality control, maintenance, equipment operation, and equipment servicing to ensure continuity of operations and achieve the best possible results in accordance with established quality standards. The top 10% of graduates may have the option of obtaining direct employment in the institutes affiliated with the relevant authority, in accordance with applicable regulations.
